Make Art!

Portrait Drawing Advanced Drawing

AGES 8 to 14  Fee: $165

On the schedule under drawing you may sign up for either portrait or advanced drawing.

In portrait drawing, students create an 18 x 24 self-portrait in graphite. Learning to make spacial judgments and shade with 12 different pencils and blending accessories, students see how fun and simple drawing can be! Photos are taken the first day to work from. Portrait drawing is required before taking advanced drawing. Pictured above are the first day samples and the portraits done in 4 days.

Advanced drawing includes graphite drawing or colored pencil. In graphite drawing, animals, vehicles, other portraits may be drawn either 18x24 or 11x14. When registering be sure to let Mrs Charlene know if you are emailing a photo of a family pet you want prepared before the camp. She has extensive files to choose from as well, so this is not a requirement.

Colored pencil pieces are done 5x7 and either with dry or wet blenders. Learn about both and how to get the most out of colored pencils.

Acrylic Painting

(after portrait drawing)

Ages 8 to 14 $185

Paintings are on 16x20 stretched canvas in acrylic. Drawing is the foundation of all art, so a strong underdrawing is mapped out for these paintings the same as in our portrait classes. Students learn proper brush treatment and how to build or layer a painting. (Painting shown above of dog is from files provided for students to choose from. This student has done two other paintings previously.)

First paintings are done of subjects from our sources that students may pick from and are done on 16 x 20 canvases provided. Once a piece has been done from our files, then students may use a photo of their choosing (not of someone else's painting) with instructor approval. Painting camps may be taken multiple times. Above: this is his second painting after 4 drawings.

ART ESSENTIALS

AGES 6-9    Fee: $165

Incorporating color and various media into projects, these camps are designed to teach children to see spacial relationships while having fun! Design concepts and vocabulary at high school level are introduced in manageable amounts that allow kids to express the natural creativity of this age. Each day is something new.
Notes on student’s progress are kept so this camp may be repeated with additional challenges.

Pictured above is a 8 year old's Acrylic painting study of chiaroscuro. Pictured below is a 6 year old's torn paper horse done entirely without scissors. She worked on a horse profile she had first drawn.

I select from a variety of books with distinct Illustration styles to read from each day and enforce what we are learning about. Sometimes we use the characters from the stories to learn our skills with. Students are given an art portfolio binder to keep their projects in.
